Air Alert Reviews

August 172010

The Air Alert reviews are right in one aspect when they compare this program to other vertical training agenda. Air Alert is focused on plyometrics or quick footwork and isometrics. It has not much by way of weight training unlike the other vertical jump programs. However, judging from what it has, it fails not to deliver on being able to target better stamina and agility. This means that a player can run faster, react quicker, and not get tired as fast. If this is your problem right now, then having a vertical training program without weights is not a bad deal after all. Get your coach to recommend the right program. He may have different thoughts on what exactly you need to improve your game.

Sport Memorabilia: More Than a Hobby

August 172010

While traveling through Orlando, Florida, I stopped into the local, annual sports memorabilia convention. If you are into sport memorabilia like I am, specifically game-used memorabilia this store is a one to see. Game-used memorabilia means items that were on the player or utilized in play during a game. The things most searched for are usually a Game-worn jersey or autographed baseballs. I myself bought a game-used jersey that was worn by the great Cal Ripken Jr, the legendary shortstop for the Baltimore Orioles, which he had on during a home game in July of 1985. He was one of my role models and idols in baseball when I was a kid.

This place had literally everything and I mean literally everything. Looking for a baseball autographed by the entire 1929 Chicago White Soxs? How about a jersey worn by any record holder you can think of? Even if you are looking for an obscure, not so famous player, I’d say a sport memorabilia convention is your best bet at finding it.

Now while I personally focused on the baseball memorabilia, since I am a huge fan of the sport of baseball, I did notice that the store was just not for a baseball fan. In fact, this convention covered almost every type of sport offered. Even the common sports such as basketball, football, golf, tennis, soccer and so on, all the way to the much more obscure sports such as lacrosse, track and field, wrestling, gymnastics, swimming, and on and on and on. Orlando’s sports memorabilia convention really that had it all!

The sport memorabilia convention was so huge it was hard to take in all at once. An expert collector would have known their way around the place; I am only a part timer. Collecting is an investment and like all investments has a level of risk involved. Some of the great players of today or shining stars might get hurt and not be able to complete their great expected great career. Being allowed into the hall of fame is a sure way for a large boost in the worth of collectibles for that player and if a player is not able to finish out their entire career due to getting hurt that can damage your investment. Other things can like terrible decisions in their personal life or gambling can also sever a player’s career and their memorabilia’s value.

Take Roberto Alomar, for example, who spit in the face of an umpire or Pete Rose who was caught gambling on baseball and given a lifetime ban. If you were holding some game-used memorabilia of these players during these down times then you surely took a hit to your investment. Whether you are in it for the fun or the money I strongly urge you to check out a sports memorabilia convention like the one I attended in Orlando. You will not be disappointed.

Game-Used Memorabilia Blog

When I was earning my college degree, I got a part time job at the UPS store in a well to do suburban neighborhood in Kansas City. One of my many notable patrons was Kansas City Royals baseball player George Brett. George played third and first base for the Royals for about 20 years and is definitely one of the most extraordinary players to ever join the Royals, as well as the entire major league baseball organization.

One play that George Brett is well known for is when his home run versus the Yankees was initially disallowed t and then allowed to be counted. The home run was taken away because he had pine tar that was applied too far up his bat, but after consideration it was figured that this did not aid him in hitting that home run. It is replayed many times on ESPN and other channels as it was the most fired up anyone had ever seen Brett with an umpire. The problematic call also cost the Kansas City Royals the game versus the New York Yankees. They even had to go back and replay a little over an inning left in the game after the incident about a week later to a stadium filled with only 1,500 fans. He came in to the store often to ship an assortment of items, usually to fans, friends, family members and people that sent items for him to sign and return.

Off the field, Brett frequently came into the UPS store where I worked to ship game-used memorabilia to fans and collectors. Often, he was sending back some sports memorabilia that fans had sent him to autograph for them. The sports memorabilia that he was sending usually consisted of items like a game-worn jersey. Autographed baseballs that were used in actual games were also being sent to fans and personal friends of Mr. Brett’s.

George Brett has many different opinions about him as a person in Kansas City. No matter how you feel about George Brett, there is no doubt that he is one of the best players who ever played major league baseball and will be a legend in Kansas City for quite a while. He still works within the Royals organization today and often also serves as a live commentator during their games. George Brett will always be a local celebrity in Kansas City and many people even eat at his restaurant that is located on the Plaza, in downtown Kansas City. If you ever wanted a piece of the Royals, Mr. Brett delivered.
