Trout Fishing Tips 242

More than 20 years ago, I had the pleasure of being taught the nuances of trout fishing, by an angler that I’ve always considered to be a trout fishing master. I honestly don’t think master is too strong a word either. This man, who I consider my fishing mentor, had more trophy trout mounted than any person I’ve ever known, and all of these trophy trout were caught from rivers and streams in central Pennsylvania that most people only caught average trout out of. In any case, he was my fishing mentor, and this quick guide to trout fishing was born largely because of him.

The next thing to keep in mind when fishing for trout is the size of the fishing gear that’s employed. Too often beginning trout anglers use fishing gear that’s entirely too heavy. One of the most important basics of trout fishing is to use ultralight rods, reels, and light line. Not only does this make trout fishing much more sporting and fun, the use of ultralight gear also makes fishing much more effective as well. I personally use four pound test monofilament fishing line when trout fishing and nothing heavier than six pound test should ever be employed when fishing for trout (in most situations).

When it comes to trout fishing basics another important basic is the way that your bait is presented. Trout, especially large, experienced trout, pay very close attention to what their bait looks like. This means that you want your bait to be presented in the most natural manner possible. This is accomplished by employing gang hooks to rig your bait. These hooks allow for an extremely natural bait presentation.

For those who are looking for a different kind of dinnerware why dont you just go after the options that would offer you sets that wouldnt necessarily require you to spend much? Instead of purchasing each dinnerware one by one or on its own, wouldnt it be much nicer for you to simply purchase in a bulk or set? This way you can have everything that you need and you just have to pay for it once and you dont even have to go way beyond your budget. If you consider it greatly, it would surely be the best option that you can have for sure.

This will come as a bit of a surprise that I’m listing this as #1. It’s one of those streams that everyone loves, but usually plays second fiddle to other famous rivers in the Yellowstone area. Most folks spend most of their trip on the really “classy” trout streams, like the Madison, Yellowstone, Firehole, or the Paradise valley spring creeks. The Gallatin is just that friendly little river that courses through gorgeous mountain territory and produces some small trout. The beautiful mountain meadow water in Yellowstone National Park, and for a few miles below holds several hundred small rainbows and cutthroat in it’s plentiful riffles. You won’t find the thousands of trout per mile that you’ll find on the Madison, or the 20″ browns, but it doesn’t get any more beautiful and the fish usually aren’t at all fussy. Access is easy and ample. Downstream, it gains power and roars through a whitewater canyon. It’s no longer an easy going meadow stream, but the trout numbers, and size of the fish, get steadily better. Below the canyon, the stream spills out into a wide sagebrush valley populated by elk and moose. Especially below the mouth of the East Gallatin, big browns begin to show up in good numbers under the undercut banks. This is good float fishing water, although waders can do well also. Finally, the Gallitin finds it’s way to Three Forks where the it helps form the mighty Missouri. The Missouri itself is an awesome trout stream, and it’s the next stream on our list.

Finding out what they are eating may be as easy as going into a stream and using a fine mesh dip net to catch what what they are rising to, so you can imitate it, or you can use an attractor fly to catch a fish and pump their stomach to examine the contents so you can pick an imitation. Either of these will work but there are certain flies the work well most of the time, and in most places. I wouldn’t ever go to the stream or lake without a few of each of these flies in varies sizes and colors. They include an Adams, deer hair caddis, and a woolly bugger. These 3 flies will work in an amazing amount of situations.

Choosing your fly is something that most people try to complicate needlessly. When choosing a fly keep 3 things in mind. Find out what they are eating, where are they eating it, and then match shape, size, and color with your fly, with shape and size being most important and color least (just get as close as possible and when you have to choose between close shades lighter or darker, choose the darker).

Grills and Smokers 8-10 on Bigadda

August 62010

Grills and smokers
have been noticed to attract a gathering any time there is a crowd. Just watching your favorite Brother to see how he keeps an even temperature without flare-ups is an experience in itself as there are many ways of grilling and smoking.

There are several options when it comes to choosing grills and smokers
. In this article Ill focus on mainly smokers. There are basically 3 different types; electric, gas & charcoal. The type that you chose may be entirely a personal preference or it may be a decision based on necessity. By that I mean that if you are going to be using the smoker in your back yard all of the time and there is no electricity available there, you probably wouldnt want to buy an electric smoker. But if you dont want to mess with lighter fluid, charcoal and such, you probably wouldnt mind purchasing an electric smoker.

Christchurch is a great base from which to access the long beaches of the coastline as well as the the inland lakes, rivers, valleys and mountains. Close by is Banks Peninsula and also the many wineries of the Canterbury Plains.

The photo above shows the West Canterbury ranges. This area, close to the famous limestone rock formations of Castle Hill, is great for guided flyfishing. The Castle Hill Alpine Village is a great place to stay while you’re in the area.

Coarse fishing enthusiasts will appreciate a visit north of Christchurch to the Kaiapoi Lakes, Rotokahatau Lake and Monopolies Pond for year round access to catches such as tench and perch.

The photo below shows some of the coastline along Canterbury, just north of Christchurch city. You’ll usually see anglers surf casting on the beach here.

Information On Kayak Fishing/Trout Fishing Tip 15

August 22010

You may want to invest in several different types of anchors and tethers that will keep you from drifting while you fish. There are bottom anchors which are collapsible and which are better for use with kayaks. There are also surface tethers which you can use to hold yourself in position alongside floating items such as markers or weed beds. Having both of these items on board will make it easier for you to fish since you will not need to worry about drifting away while you do so.

Kayak fishing is not hard but the list of equipment may be overwhelming at first. By knowing where to look for information you can make sure you have the gear you need to get started safely and easily.

A Nice Wine Collection

July 302010

There are a lot of ways to build up a nice wine collection. Picking which one you want to use is really a matter of your personal choice, but if I were you I would actually use all three At least as much as I could. Basically you can join a club like the California Wine Club and have wine delivered right to your door. This is probably the most convenient option and is a great way to get picks from experts. The second method is to visit your local wine stores, talk to the people there and get their recommendations and the final way is to visit the vineyards themselves and buy wine after doing some tasting.
